Book Clubs
Here at Griffin Books we currently run SEVEN Book Clubs for adults, teens and children! Read on to find out more...
Adult Book Clubs
Due to popular demand, we now host three Book Clubs for adults. The sessions take place in the shop on a Tuesday evening. The price (which varies slightly each month depending on the RRP of the title we're reading), includes a copy of the book and a glass of wine. Places are limited, however please do get in touch if you're interested in joining our growing book club community.
UPDATE: all three of our existing shop Book Clubs for adults are fully subscribed, so we are not able to accept new members at this time. However, as we still get lots of enquiries, we now facilitate the set-up of self-run book clubs by collecting names of interested people and bringing them together for an introductory meeting. If you would be interested in joining a self-run book club, please email us on info@griffinbooks.co.uk.
Finding Poetry Book Club
Poetry lovers rejoice! We now run a dedicated poetry book club, which is led by poet and Penarth resident Stephen Payne. The sessions take place via Zoom video call every fourth Tuesday of the month, from 7.30-9.30 pm. Each month, there will be a set book for discussion. The session will begin with a short introduction from Stephen; this might be an introduction to the poet, or to one aspect of the poet’s work or a close reading of one illustrative poem.
Quarter Life Crisis Book Club
We’re very excited to launch a BRAND NEW book club at Griffin Books, hosted by our bookseller Lucy and marketing & events assistant Alex!
Quarter Life Crisis Book Club was born out of that awkward in-between stage, when student nights no longer appeal, but traditional book clubs don’t feel quite right either. Aimed at readers in their 20s and 30s, we’re creating a space for people figuring things out - careers, relationships, and the ever-increasing price of cheese - and for those who want to connect over brilliant books while doing it. Whether you’re a lifelong reader or just trying to get through a chapter without checking your phone, you’re very welcome here.
The sessions will take place on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 6.00 pm at Griffin Books, Windsor Road, Penarth. The price (which varies each month depending on the RRP of the title we're reading) includes a copy of the book, refreshments and the session itself. The sessions are friendly and relaxed with no pressure to finish the book or “sound clever”.

Book Clubs for Children and Teens
We run two lively Book Clubs for children and young people. Our Kids' Book Club is aimed at 9-12 year-olds (in school years 5, 6 & 7), and our Teen Book Club is aimed at young readers aged 12-15 (in school years 8, 9 & 10). The book clubs meet in the shop on the second Thursday of the month (Kids: 6.00 - 7.00 pm / Teen: 7.15 - 8.15 pm). The price (which varies each month depending on the RRP of the title we're reading) includes a copy of the book, refreshments and the session itself. The sessions are friendly and inclusive, and perfect for any young person who loves books and discovering new stories.
Community Book Club Discount
We also offer a 20% discount to Book Clubs run in the community when buying FIVE or more copies of the same book in one transaction. This is a great opportunity to support a small independent business while getting together with friends to talk about something we all love - books! Collection and postage options available.
